Cannes, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ has mixed reactions
After a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15th, blockbuster “Solo: A Star Wars Story” received mixed reactions from both audiences and professionals.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is the only blockbuster Hollywood is expected to impress at the Cannes Film Festival 2018. According to the AP, on May 15, the entire team of Solo team, including director Ron Howard and the actors Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emily Clarke, Woody Harrelson and “Chewbacca” actor Joonas Suotamo are all in Cannes to promote the film.
Solo is the third Star Wars star to appear at Cannes after Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005). The movie will be released in the US on May 25th.
At the Cannes show, Solo received a three-minute applause from the audience, experts and the media. However, Variety said at the party afterwards many critics said the film was not really impressive.
Even one participant in the premiere said: “I do not want to watch it again, one more time.” Solo’s score on Rotten Tomatoes is 73%, enough “fresh” but not classics.

Washington Post’s Ann Hornaday says the film is so bland and not new, all very familiar to Star Wars fans. Rolling Stone reviewer Peter Travers praised the film for its breakthrough.
