‘Solo’ and the trapped director of ‘Star Wars’

While the superhero line is winning at the box office thanks to Avengers: Infinity War or here comes Deadpool 2, perhaps the only brand to compete well with the genre: Star Wars.

Star Wars this year has not launched the IX series of the main storyline. Instead, Lucasfilm and Disney bring the story of the youth of legendary pilot Han Solo. Harrison Ford has been associated with the young talent Alden Ehrenreich for over 40 years.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is expected to answer many questions about the past of Han Solo, Lando Calrisssian (Donald Glover) or Chewbecca (Joonas Suotamo). Song, an equally interesting question is whether the work is properly done by anyone.

Star Wars and the problem with the director chair

The question of that excess would not have existed if Solo’s recording: A Star Wars Story did not have that much trouble. For the first six months, the Phil Lord and Chris Miller duo – who performed the Jump Street and The LEGO Movie series – are responsible for directing the project.

Lord and Miller have participated in numerous promotional events for Solo in particular, and Star Wars in general prior to the shooting. But by June 2017, they were fired.

Lucasfilm is quick to look for a replacement. And that’s the veteran 64-year-old Ron Howard. He immediately returned to the scene many of the younger two predecessors made to hurry to complete Solo.

Earlier, Phil Lord and Chris Miller also debated with scriptwriter Lawrence Kasdan. He wrote the script for The Jedi Returns, and now is Solo. Some sources say the 42-year-old director did not like Kasdan being on the set and was not happy with what they did.

Another important name in Star Wars projects is Kathleen Kennedy. The 64-year-old Lucasfilm president was hired by Lucasfilm, and hired by Lucasfilm himself before his studio was acquired by Disney. In other words, Kennedy is now responsible for the billion-dollar printing press called Star Wars.

These kinds of ramshackles are not lacking in Hollywood, and many major movie brands have experienced similar happenings. Song, the dismissal of the director while the film is not finished is really rare.

A Wall Street Journal source revealed that Phil Lord and Chris Miller wanted Solo to have a contemporary style, as well as a mixture of adventure and humor. Meanwhile, the replacement Ron Howard likes to reproduce the atmosphere of the original film series by George Lucas 40 years ago.

At this point, Star Wars fans are right to question the production team. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Lucasfilm and Disney have been working on five different film projects. More than half of them have problems with the director position.

JJ. Abrams and Rian Johnson do well with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (2017) respectively. But Gareth Edwards’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) is no less controversial.

Watching an early Edwards debut, the studio decided to replace him with Tony Gilroy for the rest of the season. Gilroy filmed several scenes, reworked the film, and later shared that the status of the film when he was present was “very bad.”

Or, as Star Wars IX is scheduled to release next year, the director has changed since the shoot. Producer Kathleen Kennedy is not satisfied with the script by director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World). As a result, she decided to call J.J. Abrams.
